Used Pallet Grade Guide for Commercial Buyers

Grade names are useful shorthand, but a written acceptance standard protects the buyer and supplier.

AAA, A and B grades

AAA or premium pallets are typically cleaner and may show minimal repair. Grade A pallets are reusable pallets with sound components and a moderate repair history. Grade B pallets commonly show more repairs, including companion stringers or plugs depending on the supplier standard. Cosmetic appearance and structural condition are not the same thing.

Questions to settle before ordering

Are mixed grades permitted?
Which repair methods are acceptable?
Are painted, stained or weathered pallets allowed?
What broken-board, protruding-fastener or contamination limits apply?
Will the pallets be used in racks or automation?

Inspect and document

Check the first load against the agreed description and photograph exceptions. Sample several pallets from different parts of the load rather than inspecting only the top of each stack. For recurring programs, written feedback helps suppliers maintain a consistent sort.
