Heat-Treated Export Pallet Guide

International wood packaging rules depend on the material, destination and authorized treatment mark.

What ISPM-15 addresses

ISPM-15 is an international standard intended to reduce the movement of pests in solid-wood packaging material. Qualifying wood pallets may need approved heat treatment or another authorized treatment and a compliant mark applied by an authorized facility. A pallet described as “heat treated” without a valid mark may not satisfy export requirements.

What buyers should confirm

Provide the destination country, product type, pallet design and shipment date. Confirm that the supplier is authorized to apply the required mark and ask how replacement or repaired components affect compliance. Manufactured wood materials such as plywood may be treated differently, but the complete packaging design should be reviewed.

Build compliance into lead time

Export orders may require additional production, marking and documentation time. Confirm requirements with the carrier, customs broker, customer and relevant authorities before shipment. This guide is educational and is not a customs or legal determination.
