Pallet Size and Load Planning Guide
A pallet footprint is only one part of a workable unit-load specification.
Start with the product and handling path
Document the product dimensions, total load weight, stacking pattern and center of gravity. Then identify every handling point: pallet jack, forklift, conveyor, rack, trailer and customer receiving system. A pallet that works on a warehouse floor may perform differently in edge racking or automated equipment.
Define the physical pallet
Record overall length and width, stringer or block construction, two-way or four-way entry, deck-board arrangement, bottom boards, fasteners and acceptable dimensional tolerances. For a replacement pallet, provide photographs and note where boards split, fasteners loosen or loads shift.
Plan the order
Include quantity per shipment, recurring volume, delivery ZIP code, dock hours and required date. Ask whether samples or a first-article review are appropriate for custom designs. Do not increase load capacity by assumption; consult a qualified pallet designer or supplier when structural performance is critical.
